Very sad, painful book. A certain chapter was hard to bear because of what happened to the character. “For you, a thousand times over” “When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness.” Hassan was Amir's half brother

This book completely hooked me on its world, from Kabul to Peshawar and Fremont. A lot of Middle-East cultures were represented here, and for someone with litle knowledge, it is a blast of information, but in a most interesting way possible. I have to google up more on the history and culture of Afghanistan, since everything I know beforehand is the horrendous wars.
The plot is amazing, the characters, especially our main hero is utterly real. His struggle to gain fatherly love, his regret and agony for not standing up and his will to redempt all, they are worth savoring. I don't particularly like or dislike the writing style, but I think it's enough to keep you in suspense and keep flipping.
Highly recommend this

This book came highly recommended to me and did not disappoint. Absolutely devestating in parts it was an incredibly moving read. The author tells the story in a way that makes you empathise with the main characters through interesting explorations of feelings of guilt, loyalty and pride.

This is a 5 star read for me even though the book was difficult to read because of how heartbreaking it was.
I learned a great deal about Afgan culture, I previously had almost zero knowledge about the political history and customs of the people. You can also see the hatred and bias people carry for people they deem as different.
This was also a story about love, loyalty and courage, teaching the lesson that you can always change your path and that nothing is set in stone. You can take the parts of people who you look up to and immerse their ideals in your own self portrait.
