ARC received for an honest review

After the way the first book, Even Money ended, I knew we were going to be in for one heck of a bumpy ride with Double Down.

And Ms Torre did not disappoint me.

Holy crapballs, this book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. The conclustion to Dario and Bell's story had me anxious, had me sad, had me mad. For every character I loved, there were two I hated.

I anxiously turned each page, needing to know our lovelies were alright, that they were fighting for each other, that they would make it to their happy ending.

Full of action and suspense, Double Down was a great conclusion to our lovelies story - plenty of twists and turns. Though half the time I wanted to throw my kindle or reach into my kindle and punch somebody!

I can't wait to see what Ms Torre brings us next

That cliff hanger at the end of Even Money! Did not see that turn of events coming at all.

Started Double Down with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Alessandra in plot twist suspense mode is my favourite type of Alessandra. Think Ghostwriter. Think Girl in 6E.

The Hawk is after its prey and Dario and Bell are the hunted.

Just like Even Money, chapters are written in first person for Bell and third person for Dario, with interwoven chapters by the supporting characters. Claudia’s chapters in particular are perfectly executed, firstly because the chapter titles give insight into her mood and what will happen in the chapter, secondly because Alessandra nails Claudia’s inner thoughts and mental state.

Claudia scared the living daylights out of me. There is so much going on in this book. The missing girls. The FBI hunt. The dead wife. The bereaved lover. The crazypants dad. The crazypants! The cool Cajun. The devoted best friends. It was a showstopper!

The All In Duet is a great sexy suspenseful read.

Meh,speravo per qualcosa di più elaborato, il primo volume mi aveva messo hype.

Double Down begins immediately after Even Money ends which is amazing because with the cliffhanger I got in book one, I NEEDED answers immediately for what was happening. As soon as I got the e-mail that the ARC was availble to download to my Kindle, I quite literally stopped everything I was doing and spent the rest of my evening/early morning immersed in the lush yet dangerous world of Vegas.

Dario and Bell have been found out. Robert Hawk, Dario's father in-law, is well aware that they're romantically linked and being a dangerous man already, he now feels insulted that his son in-law has been lying to him about his marriage. He wants the threat, a.k.a. Bell, eliminated immediately.

Of course Dario knows how to work Robert and keep Bell safe and as soon as he can, he has her on a plane and leaving Vegas while he cleans up their mess. There's been a murder and Dario and Bell are at the center of it all. They just want their happily ever after, but it seems like everything and everyone around them are doing what they can to keep the two apart.

Tucked away safely in Dario's hometown and far away from Sin City, Bell is going crazy not only being away from him, but also not knowing what is happening back home. His friends and family are doing what they can to keep her entertained, but in order to keep her from being found by any threats, Bell must know the bare minimum.

Once the dangers are eliminated, Dario comes to take her home and the pair can move on with their lives, or so they think. It seems that not all the loopholes leftover from Robert Hawk's rule over Vegas have been closed. When Bell and Dario are threatened one final time and wind up fighting for their lives, all hell breaks loose.

This book is just a total page-turner. There's nothing else to it. I'm not sure how Alessandra does it so damn well every single time, but she does! I don't remember the last time I couldn't put a book down, but with this one, I finished it in one sitting. It had all kinds of elements that kept me completely enraptured from beginning to end. Whether is was the sizzling chemistry between Dario and Bell, the suspense lurking around the corner that threatened their happiness, the decadence of Las Vegas, the dangerous players in this game, and the gamble that they take with their lives, love, and future all mixed so well and made for such a delicious and thrilling treat. Alessandra knows how to maintain that balance and keep you in suspense which creates such an amazing story.

I go back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. I'm just not in love with the series. The first book was ok but I think I'm not into romance thrillers.

descriptionI am always a little afraid of being disappointed when it comes to sequels, especially when I enjoyed the first book so much. I worry it isn't going to live up to its predecessor, or the author is going to take the characters in a direction I don't like. So I was a bit nervous going into this book. I needn't have been though because I enjoyed book two just as much as I enjoyed the first.

The writing remained outstanding. It was well paced (for the most part). There was a small bit around three-quarters of the way through when the plot did start to lag a bit for me, and I felt the author could have tightened up the story a bit. But it wasn't a bit enough issue for it to affect my rating in any way. The plot remained engaging. There was no OW or OM drama. The sex scenes were suitably spicy.

This book was a bit lighter on secondary characters than the first. We get a couple of brief appearances by Rick and Lance. I was a smidgen bummed by that, and I hope we see them again in books of their own. We are also introduced to a new character...Laurent. I was super intrigued by him, and yea...he needs a book of this own as well.

Both Bell and Dario continued to be very likable main characters. Their chemistry remained off the charts. As did their devotion towards each other. Last, this was all wrapped up in a sweet HAPPY FOR NOW. I will say, I expected closure on all fronts, this being a duet and all. But we are left with a pretty sizeable loose end. Because of that, I can only assume more books may be coming?? In any case, again it wasn't a huge enough issue to affect my rating. Plus, more Bell, Dario, and their friends can only be a good thing in my opinion. description

This was a pretty wicked conclusion to Bell and Darios love story. With a killer cliffhanger in book 1, I didn't know what direction this author would take us. I love that there was a change of scenery and introduction of new intriguing characters (OMG Laurent needs his own book). What I liked most about this story is that, at this point, Dario is all-in. Bell is it for him, and he's willing to do everything and anything to protect her. His devotion to her is endearing but also so damn sexy. Their chemistry is through-the-roof. The suspense is nicely plotted, and the villain in the story is beyond crazy. It's definitely a HFN ending that promises the drama will continue for these guys at some point.

Overall, I loved Dario and Bell, and I'd love to read a novella about how their lives are 5 or so years in the future.

3.5 “Love me through the cracks.” Stars

I enjoyed this duet. I enjoyed book one, Even Money. I really enjoyed the suspense and side characters in Double Down that much more. I feel like Dario and Bell’s relationship was able to shine a bit more in this book. It was less sexy forbidden and more passionate and emotional. It was suspenseful, and wrapped up this tumultuous love story with a nice little bow. However, the bow may have been a little too bright pink for my taste, and some of the ends a little loose. I enjoyed the entire story, but did feel the ending wasn’t what I was expecting. It’d be nice to have an extended epilogue with some wrap ups for some of the side characters, and one major loose end. Other than that it was good. The ending wasn’t terrible... and I wouldn’t let it dissuade you from reading this book. I just want MORE. Do you think begging would work with this author?

All in all a great duet. If you’re looking for forbidden romance and suspense. THIS is an excellent read. It reads sort of like watching a sitcom. Layers slowly peeled back through the chapters and POV’s.

Book 2

Whereas book one focused on the complications that having an affair would entail, book two focused more on the suspense and psychological ramifications of said affair. But Gah! A very unsatisfactory ending.
