Well, this took a while to get through! It was definitely worth it though. ;)
I listened to most of "A Game of Thrones" on audiobook, which was amazing. The narrator was so good and I loved how he told the story. For the last 200 pages I decided to just read it by myself, I just wanted to finish the story a bit quicker than another nine hours. The text was really dense to read; but I did enjoy reading some of it on my own, too.

I will not repeat the description of this book. I don't think I ever have in a review. If you want to know what it's about, read the jacket; if you want to hear what I "think" about it, you read my review.
This was an awesome read.
Where the heck have I been and why have I been putting this off?
You have murder, betrayal, more murder, incest (as we know it), back-stabbing, lies, and honor. Really? This book has it all and does not deter from it's story with a cookie-cutter style plot. You expect the good guys to win and the bad guys to get swallowed up by their own evil; not this story. This story tells a lot of hard truths about the lives of our main characters. A story that weaves and twines itself around us with numerous characters and plots. You wonder how you will remember it all, and somewhere along the line you forget that. You become involved. You become invested in this story. You remember what knight belongs to which house, and who exactly is the Mountain that rides! I mean how could you forget? I became involved and shared a tear, even. More often I shared a few expletives because of the duplicity of some of the characters and pure evil of others.
Many times during the reading of this book I kept saying to myself, "no, no way would that happen!" and other times I was in shock when things did not. I mentioned honor earlier, but not too many characters have true honor. Even the characters you think are most honorable, hide dastardly secrets that could harm or even destroy others.
I shall

Spoiler
When you can kill off a main character, murder another; kidnap and even maim a few children; and the reader still stays invested in the story...well, good reader.. I say, keep on reading.I shall

After being forced to watch the show last fall, I am now reading through the books.
I must say, absolutely love this book, I think it is FANTASTIC!
While the show was fairly accurate to the book, I think I had a better time reading it because it was easier for me to understand all the mischievous behind the scenes planning from our characters (like Little Finger).
There was some plot points that just flew over my head in the show (like the King being manipulated to compete in the tournament because someone, like the Mountain, could kill him). Love that the first book focused so much on Ned Stark, it really felt like he would be the main character for the rest of the series if I hadn't already seen the show.

As someone who traditionally doesn’t like fantasy I was really impressed by this book!! I haven’t watched the tv show and knew some spoilers but not the basic premise. I was surprised at how easy it was to get into the world and how immersive the setting was! The world was so intricate and almost read like history instead of fantasy! The characters were all very smart and had their own interesting motivations that I really liked! Definitely continuing on with this series, it really blew me away!

This book has A LOT of world building, which would have been confusing if not for the appendix in the back with the members of each house (thank god for that). The book is non-stop with different events happening, which was good in the beginning, but I found the book too long and drawn out and by the end I was getting bored.
I found Daenerys’ character the most interesting to follow, and found myself waiting for the next of her parts in the book.
Despite the parts I did find interesting, I don’t think it’s enough for me to continue the series.
