3.5 Wonderfully illustrated as always, grimey enough to be thrilling, but the mystery part was quite obvious. I know I'm not the target audience, but still. However, the beginning was so promising I had to kerp reading and the characters are vivid and interesting. All in all, a good read.

The fantasy and mystery lover in me enjoyed this book. I think it is a perfect upper elementary book. Per usual, Paul Stewart has done a good job of creating a world that I would want to be a part of. Nice length and content.

This is the second time I've read this and it is just as good as last time. A great quick read that is well written and surprisingly gory. We see the toned down brilliance of Paul Stewart's idiosyncratic writing style and some of Chris Riddell's amazing illustrations. Great little historical mystery

To be fair. I read this book entirely because of the artwork of Chris Riddell. The artwork is as expected amazing. The story was very whimsical. I think I really would have enjoyed it as a child.

2,5 Sterne.

Naja.
