This is a great book for the start of second grade. Kids will relate to Keena not wanting to publicly admit she made a mistake, especially on the first day of school. It is a quick read with many life lessons and the illustrations are great.

I got this book for my daughter to read since she is entering 2nd grade. She is an advanced reader so it was a surprise when it took her a while to read the book. She said that she enjoyed it, but I still wondered why it took her so long. I read the book so that I could ask her some questions, and I realized that it took her so long because she has been caught lying recently. This book really resonated with her. I think she saw herself in Keena's place. She didn't mean to lie, but she just got caught up. Even with the diary format, it is so easy to understand Keena. I can't wait to read the next one with my daughter!!

Meet an irrepressible young lady with a flair for getting into trouble! ⬅️ This description fits the girl I bought the book for, my former foster daughter, A.

2011 Monarch Award Nominee-much more likable than Junie B.

I think this series is adorable. Keena's antics are eye roll-inducing, but they make me laugh all the same.

Move over Judy Moody and Junie B. Jones! Keena Ford is entering second grade, and boy does she have a few things to learn. For one, never lie. And two, the people who love you will always love you.

But the bigger mystery is...why haven't I known about this series until now?!? You can tell it's written by an educator and mother. Keena is fallible yet supremely redeemable. She isn't snotty!! She isn't precocious either. I love the parents, the teacher, and how discipline was handled--with a eye towards recognition of mistakes. Forgiveness is never in doubt.

Keena Ford has earned a place on the shelves of my classroom library and in my heart.

Reminds me a little of Nikki Grimes' Dyamonde Daniel Series. I can see children enjoying this.
