I decided to read this since the movie was coming out and I'd heard from friends that Jodi Picoult was amazing. But if any of you have the intentions of falling in love with the author do NOT read this book first. If I had known it would be so tragic in the end I would never have read it. It left me feeling betrayed. While reading I was slowly getting pulled in and starting to love the characters like I would do with any book. I was naturally hoping for the best out-come for everyone; hoping for a story miracle amidst all the chaos. It never came. It broke my heart. The end was only more suffering.

Totally didn't expect that ending!
I really liked the story being told from the many points of view on how a chronic illness of one child effects every member of the family - especially the healthy children who want to have more of the parents' attention while being conflicted knowing the sibling would gladly lose the attention if it meant being healthy.

I really enjoyed this book. It was the biggest page turner I have read since the last Harry Potter and once I picked it up I really couldn't stop. The topic is one of the most unique topics in fiction I have read about in a very long time. However, I have never been more annoyed with an ending of a book in a long time.

Thought provoking and beautifully written, this book was painful to read in some places. The twist was heart breaking and incredible at the same time and the ending left me in tears. Everyone who reads this book will read it in a different way - whether you read it as a parent or as a sibling, it will never be easy when you're forced to imagine what your life could be like.
