A very unique book. The plot is captivating, the characters are interesting and very likeable. I didn't emjoy rhe lengthy descriptions of nature, but I can imagine how special they could be for those interested. The author has a beautiful writing style.

I don’t know quite what made this book so special to me. But in the time I read it, it consumed me. It become a craving of sorts and the book was my sustenance that kept me going.

It’s hard to explain quite why I felt this way. Objectively, I found parts of the book predictable. I thought the dialogue was lacking and out of character at times, and the plot and ideas were not anything particularly special or new.

But I thoroughly enjoyed  Owens writing, the marsh and Kay became things I came to care deeply for. The nature in the book enveloped me as a reader, it provided comfort and intrigue.

I thought the different years each chapter was in felt unhelpful at time and killed the enehery of the book. But the way it came together later on was beautoful.

I’m not sure how I feel about the ending. I would have liked if it had stayed more ambiguous.

But this book strangely had a small price of my heart, I cannot thank it
enough

3.5 stars. Wow, the anger I felt towards the characters who were prejudiced against Kya was stunning. I thought the book was very well written, but too slow paced at the beginning - however I do appreciate that this time really set up all of the needed background information. I loved reading this book as an audio, since I think it helped me to connect to the poetry and understand the accent. Though I did have to suspend my disbelief at how Kya becomes so independent at such a young age - and then later how quickly she learns to read and becomes a well renowned biologist. That being said, I liked the in-depth understand Kya has of her environment and how this shapes the person she becomes. I also liked the twist at the end of the book and honestly did not see it coming. Overall, I really liked this coming-of-age story.

Very close to a five star read. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I'm glad I listened to it on audio because the narrator brought the book to life. I was in love with, and rooting for Kya from the beginning. Of course there were a few predictable things, but I didn't care because I was completely hooked by then. I really enjoyed this book and it definitely deserves the accolades. Bravo
