Although I really love Terry, this book is not one of my favourites. Soul music (and Moving Pictures too) bases most of its jokes and hints on references to pop culture. Unfortunately, the music references made are for an older audience. I am a good 40 years younger then Terry, and it showed. This made me feel disconnect from the story, and put a damper on the reading experience.
I found it especially sad because I really like Death as a character. He’s interesting, complex and distinctive, just very different from anybody else. So it pains me to give a Discworld book any less then 5 stars, but I can’t say I liked as much as the others.
So in short:

I was struggling to find time to read the audiobook - I think I'll pick this one up again later in the year, maybe in paperback, and try again.
