The writing in this book is beautiful but it because frustrating to read after the
sexual assault. She went through a lot and I wish she got the help she so needed. I wish she spoke up about what happened to her. I wish her life turned out better.
I was expecting a sapphic love story, but I got mental illness and trauma and it was all so sad and heartbreaking.

the novel is beautifully written, but I wish it had kept up the pace it started in the first chapter. the detached writing style is something I notice commonly in Asian authors, but I wonder if its the fault of the translation. its similar to "woman running in the mountains" where the context of when these books were written makes them strong feminist novels. I wish we had gotten to see Oh San develop into a happy character and explore her queer identity instead of the focus being placed so heavily on the photographer, but I LOVED the ending and the authors explanation.

All I'm saying is I was promised lesbianism and instead I was given a rape scene. So like. Beautiful but then it threw me off right at the end.
