i admit that sometimes i just assume im not going to enjoy a high school YA romance because im 'old' and thinking about high school makes me break out in hives... but not only am i just trying to make up for the lack of representation i had in media as a teen, i have also been adamant to broaden my horizons lately
the start of the book had be trepidatious because it really goes straight in with the melodramatic high school drama and first heartbreak pain but you get so quickly captured by these characters and soon the book pivots into a truly camp fake dating romp that i couldn't put down until it had finished.
the truth is that all of these books get me emotional even if they aren't as great as this one just because of the sapphic representation. i just wish i had books like this and a community like this when i was a young lesbian finding their way in the world.
and i definitely only thought that i didn't like romance/rom-coms before because i didn't have enough sapphic love to read

Probably a 3.5, in that I enjoyed Scottie's family dynamics, supportive half sister. However, first love, heartbreak and resulting angst was a bit much for me, but probably great for the ya audience.
This was a really good book I loved everything about it even if one of my least favorite tropes fake relationship that is was in it this book was still a joy to read. I loved all of the characters especially Scottie and Irene they fit well together even if it started from a want to get something from each other. I liked Scottie for her down to earth attitude she is like your average girl going through a hard time I really liked it when things finally were in perspective for her and how different she was around Irene rather than how she was insecure with Tally. I liked Irene for being more than what she seemed at first glace a girl with so much that makes her interesting. I really liked the plot it started with a down on her luck Scottie having the worst day after her ex girlfriend dumped her she runs into Irene and the plot moves from there it was such a great read.
giving it 2.75 .
Scottie drove me crazy tbh i know she suffers from a heartbreak but she was being pathetic a bit too much and almost ended up missing out on many things and whenever she thinks of that Tally girl i roll my eyes ugh it took 70 pages for the story to start getting better anyways this was my first wlw book and it was great i guess, i need more .

I didn’t like this book very much. First of all, I listened to it on audiobook and really didn’t love the narrator’s voice, so I think that hindered my ability to fully get into it, which is partially why I did 2 stars instead of 1. Mostly, I couldn’t stand the main character, Scotty. The book is written in first person and it was so irritating being in her head. The author used so many cliches throughout the whole book and it felt really inauthentic. It felt like a queer high school love story written by a middle aged straight woman. Just overall not my fav and didn’t land with me.
