This book was such an easy read that it got me out of an almost two-year-long reading slump. It was funny, brief, light-hearted, and cheesy in a good way. As a student whose senior year in high school was unanticipatedly taken out of the equation, this book gave me the warm, bouncing high school vibes I like to experience every now and then. It's a huge bonus that it's sapphic.
I loved Scottie and Irene's constant bickering in the earlier chapters of the book, and I loved how it transitioned to playful banter in the later parts.
I love Scottie's relationship with her family. Thora was always so feisty and 'brusco' but in the best big sister way. Daphne was a sweetheart and was cute and funny. Props to both Scottie and Irene's parents for being supportive too. I love how homophobia from their own families wasn't really the problem at all in the book.
Honey Belle's character never failed to make me picture Amanda Seyfried in my head. She was always nice to everyone too. I need a friend like her and Danielle.
I was drawn to Irene's character the most because I just love how she was described to have a very intense and commanding vibe constantly. I love how I thought she was a b*tch initially and her turning out to be an angel (lol).
My favorite scene was the part where Irene confesses her feelings to Scottie on Christmas Eve. That whole chapter in general was just so tender and warm and cozy and sweet and it felt so good after a whole couple of chapters of fighting between Scottie and Irene (which I love, don't get me wrong).
Anyways, I started reading the book at about 10PM last night, and I ended up falling asleep reading it. Just finished it now and I just wanna say: I couldn't put the book down and I've never read a book this fast.
If a coming of age movie was a book, it would be this.
