2.5 stars.

I find it quite easy to talk about books I love. Same goes for books I can't stand and want to throw into a wall.
But books that are only meh. Only okey, nothing special to me. Those are the tricky ones.
That's why this review will be very brief.

Overall [b:The Invention of Hugo Cabret|9673436|The Invention of Hugo Cabret|Brian Selznick|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327879761s/9673436.jpg|527941] just meh.
It was not interesting at all in the beginning and I felt like it focused more on the art than the actual story.
Hugo and Isabelle didn't do a lot except for run back and forth between places for a little less than the first half of the book.
I had to push through it, even though most of the pages were filled with pictures and once something was written on the page it was so short and brief which made me annoyed because I wanted to know more about the story rather than look at the pictures.

I wish the art made the book a lot better, but unfortunately I didn't like it enough to give it a higher rating.
They were just nice, but nothing that blew my mind or made me turn the pages slower just to take a good look at them.
The whole 'reading experience' was decent. Easy and quick to get through. Plus it's original.

The second half was a quite a big improvement, and that's what made me give it 2,5 stars instead of 2. It was interesting, fun to read and the dialogue improved a lot.
Less pictures and more words, which was exactly what I wanted.
I know that maybe the point of this book isn't just the story, otherwise it probably wouldn't have been made with pictures in it if the author didn't think it added something to the whole thing.
But it failed to impress me. My expectations weren't that high before starting [b:The Invention of Hugo Cabret|9673436|The Invention of Hugo Cabret|Brian Selznick|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327879761s/9673436.jpg|527941] I was more hoping for it to be something I could get through quickly and enjoy without completely loving it.
And sometimes that's exactly what you need, you know. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. Just an okey book.

If you're looking for a quick read as well as some variety then I recommend you pick it up.

It was wonderful. It probably took me all of an hour or two to read, but the mixture of text and illustrations made it a great book, even for an adult.

I ended up enjoying this book a lot more than I thought I would. I found the story to be magical and enchanting. I loved how the book was a combination of pictures and text, it was done in a beautiful and tasteful way that I really admire. Because of how it is written it is an incredibly fast-paced book. It took me an hour to read a 600 page book, it just fly's by. There isn't really anything I didn't like about the book, all questions I had at the beginning are answered by the end.
All in all I really really liked this book and plan on reading more of Brian Selznick's books in the future.

A really cute and fun book. But a fun graphic novel! Highly recommend if you want an escape. Who knew so much excitement can happen in a train station.

An odd combination of mechanical parts and dreams. You wouldn't think it would work so well together but it does. My only criticism is that I found myself wanting more pictures. Since we got to see some moments illustrated, it made me want to see them all. In one way, this is a compliment to the format and how quickly I adapted to and came to expect to be visually engaged.

Truthfully, the writing and plot are only so-so, but the concept of the book is good enough to bump it up.
