I am surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. Essentially it’s a memoir by Roland T Bird of his time in the late 1930s digging up dinosaur bones and trace fossils (footprints) for Barnum Brown and the American Museum of Natural History in NYC. The book is a fascinating glimpse not only at paleontological digs as they were back then but also of the very practical mindset that dominated in the relatively resource poor America in the Great Depression.
