The White Book

Hmm ...

I don't know what to make of this book.

It's elegant, in a minimalist, subdued kind of way.

The font size is minuscule, there's a lot of white space and empty pages.

There are some nice passages, but also a whole lot of simple, simplistic, and "I don't get the point" kind of writing - writing for the sake of writing, or better said, I was reading it and not getting much out of it, despite wanting to.

I don't know - it's one of those "concept books".

You definitely have to be in the right kind of mood/frame of mind to appreciate it.

Or maybe not. It's not terrible. I wouldn't call it great either. It's probably one of those books you give more value to because of who the writer is. Probably.

I don't really know...

Annerledes shortstories med fargen hvit som gjennomgangstema.

immaculate

This book is more of an allegory for the author’s meditation on color white. Mostly sad reflections on the minutes of life, rich with hyperboles and reflections. I think one has to read it in Korean in order to fully grasp its beauty. English translation is strange at times, barely making any sense.

I got this book as a gift an read it in one sitting.

absolutely beautiful and thought provoking

Um conjunto de pequenos textos baseados numa lista de coisas brancas. São curtos mas muito densos, e das coisas simples da lista são exploradas ideias muito complexas. Para ler numa tarde ou numa noite, mas com uma carga maior

A set of small writings based on a list of white things. They are short but very dense, and of the simple things on the list, come complex ideas to be explored. To read in an afternoon or evening, but with a heavy energy

"And she frequently forgot,
That her body (all our bodies) is a house of sand.
That it had shattered and is shattering still.
Slipping stubbornly through fingers."

Wow. One might have to spend a lot of time contemplating the meaning of these words about living and the dead, but the imagery will invade your mind immediately. Particularly beautiful were the descriptions of fog, the whiteness of objects in the dark, and the quiet silence of a morning.

I am not sure that I understood this book enough. To me, it was an exposition on suffering and the imagination of a life that her sister did not have. I want to re-read it.

Endlessly beautiful. I love a good book that reminds me to slow down and read each line
