I love it when the characters aren't perfect, especially when their flaws don't nearly them killed, as is usually poor Kirsten's way.
Kirsten is jealous of the new girl at school whom everyone just adores. Then she learns the new girl's secret and realizes there's more than enough room in Minnesota for the both of them.

This was a very gay book (Kirsten honestly has a crush on Nora).

This review is written from the perspective of a mother - it was a relief to read this short story, after the insanity that was Changes for Kirsten. The Kirsten series is strongest when the story focuses on Kirsten's emotional development rather than action/adventure plots, and this story is a perfect example of that.
The target age group will benefit from reading about Kirsten being jealous of the new girl, Nora, and how she (slowly) comes to realize that Nora is feeling the same pressures and discouragement that Kirsten felt in Kirsten Learns a Lesson. Empathy is an important lesson to learn, and I think this book handles it deftly, while still fitting well in the overall Kirsten series. I just wish the measles plot had been worked into Kirsten's core series, rather than being barely handled here.
