To anyone who’s ever felt like too much.

Once again, I loved another Avery Keelan book. This book follows Seraphina, Chase’s sister and Tyler, Chase’s roommate and teammate. And once again the relationship flowed perfectly even though they had previously met and hooked up before they officially met. They went from strangers to having a three orgasm quickie in the nightclub bathroom to roommates to friends to fwb to lovers. It was very enjoyable seeing their friendship grow even though there was slight tension as they both reminisced on their night together months ago. And one of my favorite aspects of their friendship was when they did 21 questions over text and they never stopped. Like it began as a way to become friends and not think about their hookup which became the best parts of their day. And even in the epilogue which is three years later, they still continued to play it and they were on like question 1000 🥹. Plus, I loved their nicknames for each other, Hades and Tink since it was based on the costumes they wore when they met each other 😩. And then y’all, one day everything started going wrong for her like her decaf coffee accidentally got tossed out and it sent her into a spiral and then she couldn’t find her keys, so poor girl was overstimulated. AND THEN after that he bought her a separate PINK coffee maker with decaf coffee beans and her favorite candy, pink starbursts 🥺. Like what the hell, the fact that he remembered she loved pink starburst then went out of his way to make her life easier 😩. These were only a handful of things I loved about this book but I HIGHLY recommend reading this series and I CANNOT wait for the next book 👏👏. Which will be about Chloe, Sera’s new friend and classmate and Reid, Tyler and Chase’s new teammate who transferred from one of their rival teams.

Favorite quotes/scenes:

Her soaking pussy clenches around me, and I drive deeper, thrusting in perfect tempo with her moans…
“Oh, don’t turn that off on my account. Sounds like it was getting good.”

“Guess how I know you were the last one to empty the dishwasher?”
“How?”
“Because you left half the cupboards open.”
“That isn’t my fault. That’s an ADHD thing. I can’t help it. It’s like I legitimately don’t see them.”
“Honestly, I think it’s cute. It’s your calling card, like a reminder Tinker Bell was here.”

“Have her home by nine-thirty, Ron.”
“Er… it’s Rob, actually.”
“Tyler doesn’t mean that. He’s joking.”
“She’s right. Ten o’clock is fine.”
“Tyler.”

“You’re so fucking pretty.”
“Even first thing in the morning?”
“Especially first thing in the morning.”

“Even though we live together, she’s so stunning it leaves me a little awestruck every time. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to it.”

“When I picture the rest of my life five years down the line, I can’t help but insert her in it. My brain does it automatically. She’s everywhere.”

“Y-you still want to be with me? Even if I might get sick or have to get surgery or—"
“No matter what. I’m all in, Ser. I’d do anything for you. Name it, and it’s yours.”

“Ty.”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t treat me differently because of this. Please. I need to feel like I’m still desirable. Like I’m still me, and we’re still us.”
“What you’re saying is, you want me to pull your hair while I tell you to shut the fuck up and take my dick like a good girl?”
“Something like that.”

“Question fifty-three. Do you have any idea how much I love you?”
“As much as I love you?”
“More. I would do anything for you, Tink. Name it, and it’s yours.”

“Question 1162. Will you marry me?”
“Hades. Of course I will.”

The first of the series was a strong 3⭐️. So, I was on the fence if I wanted to continue with the second of the series…. I’m so happy I did! 5⭐️

This book was boring. I don’t know if maybe I’m over saturated with college hockey romance books but this didn’t hit with me at all. Mid from beginning to end. I was more interested in Chase when he appears on the page and I barely remember anything from his book. The FMC was supposed to appear like a manic pixie dream girl but it failed to translate. Okay, we get it, her hair is pink, she loves pink and has ADHD. You don’t have to beat me over the head with it. And I swear every romance book has an FMC obsessed with Taylor Swift (or she gets at least a passing mention). I know it’s a sign of the times but I roll my eyes every time and I consider myself a Swiftie. MEH. Whatever. Next.

This was miles better than the first book, but I don't think Avery Keelan is the author for me. Upon reading this book, I am 100% lowering my rating of Offside, the first book in the series, to two stars because this was a solid three for me and Offside is definitely not on the same level.

Seraphina has just moved cross-country and needs a place to stay while she figures everything out. Her brother, Chase, lives with a few of his hockey teammates and friends and offers her a place to live in the meantime. While moving in she locks eyes with Chase's friend, Tyler, the same guy she hooked up with a few months ago on Halloween and both haven't forgotten that hot night since. However, Tyler doesn't date because he believes it's a distraction to his hockey career that's slowly burning him out, and Seraphina is dealing with troubles at home, not to mention her protective older brother is not afraid to bury someone for even looking at his little sister.

However, as the two keep bumping into each other and living together, they can't deny their attraction. Looks turn into sexting which turns into hookups and slowly casual is no longer an option. But between their own heads and hiding it from Chase they've got trouble up their sleeves.

EH. This was way better than book one, but was still paced weirdly. Since they hooked up with each other on Halloween, which wasn't on page, they're already attracted to each other, so you never get to see that buildup. What matters to me in a romance is seeing both characters realize they're in trouble because they like the other person. Even if it is a friends-to-lovers romance, they still have the stakes of possibly fucking up the friendship, but this book didn't have that. They already found each other hot, both were in hookup dry spells because of the hot sex they had with each other months ago, so they were already holding out for each other. Thus, the buildup to their romance was boring because they already did and do everything that makes a romance fun.

I'm also not a smut gal, but I don't hate a book if there is too much or too little smut, this book was just them banging and not working out their feelings. The love confession went from hookups to "I love you" very quickly, in my opinion. There are emotional moments meant to bond them in a way that isn't physical, but it was over very quickly. I really only started to like this book by page 250 out of 340. By that point, they had connected in more ways than just stickin' it in and I really liked them.

I do like reading an epilogue, but the bonus chapters this book had were meh. There are a few and they jump with multiple years in between and those would be fun if you like the couples from both this book and the first, but for me, I was just reading them to finally close the book and celebrate it is over.

I have one more book of Keelan's to read on my physical tbr, but after that, if I pick up her books it will rather be on my Kindle via Kindle Unlimited or I must really love the synopsis because none of her books capture me in the way where I'm kicking my feet and giggling over fictional love.

A quick and easy romance to flit through, Shutout is a lighthearted tale of falling in love when you least expect it. Though it touches on some difficult subjects, it doesn’t go into too much depth which enables you to process the more touchy subjects quickly.

In stark contrast to its predecessor, Shutout is a quick read and isn’t made up of lots of little subplots. It gets down to the root of the story which is Sera and Ty’s relationship. Though I’m glad that there weren’t as many subplots as Offside, I wish there’d been a bit more actual hockey. There is a lot about the drafting process, by way of Tyler’s worries about the future, but not too much in relation to a play-by-play of hockey games which is what I really liked about Offside. Put the two books together and you have the perfect tale!

I really love the characters in this series, so I’m hopeful we’ll get a Chloe/Reid love story. They both deserve a happy ending.
