I just love John Steinbecks writing. I don't think I've read anything from him that I haven't loved. I liked how all over the place and unconventional the storytelling was here; you can really tell how much fun he is having writing this.

Bars. The frog escapade was something out of a DnD campaign. Doesn’t feel the most relevant or meaningful but it’s a wonderful slice of life.

Steinbeck is the master of the American novel, and you can practically smell the canneries and sea breeze in this tale of 1930s coastal California. A story of Mack and the boys trying to throw a party for Doc is interspersed with chapters about the characters that make up Cannery Row.
