The richness of Steinbeck's prose in Cannery Row is so lively and vivacious that it could be sold as a piece of art rather than a book. There are moments in the book which I am a little lost, (e.g the gopher, the women in the water, the man and the baby) but overall finishing this was so delightful. This is what I feel writting is about.

While 'Cannery Row' doesn't 'go somewhere' in the same way that 'Of Mice and Men' does, it's a really pretty tale about a small neighbourhood of mostly very poor people (it's set in the Depression) and how they live our their lives. It's very small and it's very pretty and there are some cracking lines in there (particularly about beards). As a shorter read you can knock this over in a few hours, and escape from airpods and the 9–5 work day and remember what life was like when we weren't all hustling and hashtagging.
