I loved this series and Grace’s character, I just don’t think I was ready for Ewan to transition into the role of hero yet. I wish she would have written a romance for the bastards female lieutenant first to give him a chance for some redemption before he got it all at once.

I knew that it would be hard for me to like Ewan because of what he did in the other books but I heard a lot of people saying that he grovels and makes up for what he did. That didn’t happen.
I hated Grace more that I hated Ewan. She would say that she would make him pay and almost immediately she would go to him and forget about everything. Ewan has tried to kill Beast and Devil since they ran away and then tried to injury their wives. Yet she sides with him. Even though they’re the ones who were with her and tried to survive alongside her after Ewan betrayed them and tried to kill them all. She punches him a few times in the beginning because Beast and Devil are watching and after that, she keeps going to him and keeps saving him (from Beast and Devil or the Garden).
Ewan’s character was only slightly less annoying. He’d say how he hated being from the Garden and that he liked being the Duke and then when people from the Garden would call him a toff, he would think about how they knew nothing about him and that he was from the same place that they were. Pick a side already!
Another thing that really bothered me was how he never tried to gain any forgiveness or even tried to make things right for what he did 20 years ago. He never goes to Grace, he always lures her to wherever he is which made me really angry. After all he did, shouldn’t he be the one going to her and trying to earn her forgiveness? The worst thing in this book was how he was dismissive of his brothers. He nearly killed them 20 years ago and now he’s been trying to ruin them and he does absolutely nothing about it. He never goes to them. And once again, they go to him when he doesn’t deserve it!
I kept waiting for the part where he grovels or maybe just where he keeps doing things to show his regret. But that never happens. When Grace saves him once again and forgets about how much pain he’s caused and then when he walks away and she follows him, I couldn’t read anymore. People keep saying how good this book is because of how Ewan redeems himself but I don’t see where they got that idea from because with the way the characters are acting towards him, it’s as if he’s never done anything wrong.
The first two books in this series were ok, good even, but this book makes me hesitant to read any other books by this author. Maybe the book gets better later on but I couldn’t deal with how all the characters didn’t really care that Ewan tried to kill them all and hasn’t done anything to show that he regrets his actions even the slightest bit.

Sarah MacLean consistently delivers beautiful and sultry romance with HEAs! This final installment of The Bareknuckle Bastards is no exception and does not disappoint!
Trigger warnings: violence, abusive treatment of children (in the past), fire, explosions, death (in the past), death of a parent (in the past).
I've been curious from the get go about how MacLean was going to handle Ewan and Grace's story given that Ewan was very much set up as the villain in the first two books. But I definitely didn't need to worry - for one thing, she's turned the villain into a hero before. But also, this was generally delightful and sweet. I loved how it cut between the past and the present, fleshing out their history and their relationship. I liked how Ewan didn't INSTANTLY go from being the villain to the hero, that there was a gap in between for him to go off and be a less shitty person and then come looking for Grace again. And the ending was especially satisfying and wrapped up the trilogy nicely.
(I also liked that it jumps forward slightly in time, placing it at the beginning of Victoria's reign and heralding in some of the negative social changes that the Victorian Era brought with it)

Delightful! A great story of redemption, forgiveness and a love of a lifetime sprinkled heavily with humor and spice; the perfect ending to the Bareknuckle Bastards series.
YES. I had a couple of issues with some of the other books in the series but if this is how it ends then all is well.

I enjoyed the series overall and when I think of the stories, I love them. Literally, I love the characters. My issue was with the writing at times. Either confusing or repetitive and too parallel to the previous story. Happy the siblings had a happy ending.

I finished this weeks ago and never put it on goodreads oops
3.5 stars. Love Grace, but Ewan needed to do so much more groveling and heavy lifting to win her back, IMO. My least fav of the series.
Update: just looked back at my review of Day of the Duchess and I think I may just not be a fan of second chance romances!
