There is no other reason to read this other than that it is apparently the first novel. I did feel worried sick about Pamela, Samuel Richardson really succeeds in making the readers care for the girl, the novel's first half at least is very engaging in that way. But it's too repetitive and modern readers are not going to be invested in the romance between Pamela and that scumbag. The last half felt like a drag for that reason. To make it worse, the subtitle giving away that the rich bastard won't have any ulterior motives later and Pamela's 'virtue' will successfully transform him, resolves a lot of the tension that could've arisen from uncertainties

Absolutely despicable book. Multiple attempts of rape, sexual harassment of the 16-year-old Pamela, kidnapping and imprisonment of her, gaslighting and blaming her for everything happening to her while all she wants is to get back to her poor parents. I wanted to stop reaading so many times and needed to take many breaks. There is SO much abuse in the first half of the book.
