I've seen a few people theorize that this book might have been requested by the editor after the success of Gorman's inauguration speech and it would certainly explain how impersonal and rushed the collection felt.
However, it seems to have resonated with quite a few people and I did find enough good to make me want to explore more of their work.

I know she is a genius—I can see it-but her poetry was mostly not accessible to me.  I think I would appreciate it more if I attended a spoken word performance.

There were some beautiful poems in here that I really enjoyed. Some poems felt basic to me though. I will still read her future works because I did love some of her poems in here.
