This was not the best pick. The main character is a hit man, and therefore I could never get into him. He was not remorseful and so I couldn't like him or have much sympathy for him. I kept reading in the hopes that John would change, but he never did.

I really liked this book. John Rain is reminiscent of John Reese on Person of Interest. I don't know how I missed this series but I am looking forward to reading them all.

I've been reading these books out of order and enjoying them, they are a violent, sexy, cultural mix of a guilty pleasure. This is the first in series and it clarified a lot of references in future books. They can all be read stand alone easily but it is nice to finally dot all the cross all the Ts. This book was a little rough around the edges in comparison to the later books but still very enjoyable.

Liked it, not sure why I didn't love it. Lots of great reviews, but Barry Eisler is no Lawrence Block or Lee Child for me. Would have rather read one of their books. JMHO. I'll probably read the next in this series, but not for a while...

Great gritty mystery novel

Now I see why Elizabeth Warren is a fan of these books. Very evocative, complex, strong characters, phenomenal observations and background. Tight writing in the old detective novel style.
