I almost give this one up but I'm glad I stuck with it. The ending was brilliant! Did not see that coming!

Powered through the audiobook and the narrator was honestly a little robotic. BUT, fortuanutely it didn't really take away from the cool story. I liked the premise but wasn't completely into this world.

I'm not super motivated to read the next one but we'll see...

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. What with all the world building and the slow pace but it was perfect. We met the characters, met side characters and potential love interests and they were fleshed out enough to be what they are. Only potential. It was so good.
I loved Arsinoe and Katharine even though i have to admit Katharine was my favorite. I couldn't stand Mirabella and her relationship with the worm Joseph. I have never hated a pairing more in my LIFE.
The friendship between Billy and Arsinoe will develop into love IN DUE TIME. But i do believe they will remain friends for a while longer.
I can't believe Pietyr pushed Katharine into the ravine?????? Like????????
Jules deserves SO MUCH BETTER.
What i liked most were the female friendships in this they were BEAUTIFUL I LOVED THEM. No girl hate, no rushed romances, beautiful setting, intriguing wide cast of characters. What's NOT to like???

I’m disappointed. I thought this book was going to be amazing. And sure for the most part it was pretty good. The magic system is interesting, even thought at times it was hastily exlained. And the world building is okay so far. But more than anything it was just confusing.

I spent the majority of this book trying to keep track of all the characters. I was already confused by how many characters were introduced in the first chapter alone, and then in the second chapter animals are introduced and at that point I couldn’t even tell which names belonged to animals and which belonged to people.

About the first 40% of this book was just the author introducing us to the three main characters and their love interests. Which I may have been okay with, if I actually liked any of the characters. There was no cute banter. There were too many misunderstandings between the sisters, specifically Arsinoe and Mirabella. Every line of dialogue in this book felt rigid.

This book may still have gotten three stars if it wasn’t for the last 5% of the book. The betrayal that happened was pulled out of thin air to the point were it felt completely unbelievable. And the reveal after that was SO predictable that I’m shocked no one figured it out sooner.

I saw the last reveal coming from pretty much the third chapter of the book. I mean- it was pretty obvious. The way Kendare Blake glazed over certain parts of the magic system were SO OBVIOUSLY done to hide the plot twist. It was both frustrating and infuriating.

The plot was good but for an audiobook, there were so many characters in each point of view that it made it hard to remember who was on whose team, especially because there were crossovers. The world makes sense and everything is very easy to understand but the characters just threw me for a loop half of the time. That ending wants me to continue reading but in book format because the audiobook just didn’t do it for me.
