I was intrigued by the premise and expecting a feminist, kick-butt, patriarchy-smashing fairy tale.

It took me a while to get into this book and the beginning was quite slow and felt a bit pointless. That's why I only gave this 3 stars because it does eventually redeem itself and by the end I was engrossed.
I loved this idea and concept but the beginning could have been crafted better. I will definitely read the next book after that ending.

This book was incredible. The different characters and how their lives were interwoven was amazing. I tore through this and I am so excited for the sequel. I don't want to ever leave this world.

I've had this on my 2018 TBR since January, because I'd heard that it was just the kind of dark YA fantasy I've begun to really dig. My biggest flaw about this read was that it's the first audiobook I've listened to from beginning to end. College started and sucked my free-time away, so audiobooks are where my poor soul has stooped. It could be that I was zoning out while listening (and driving, mind you) that made it hard for me to be totally interested in this book.

And, slight spoiler, but I don't think there is a single character that I'm actually rooting for. They're all very one-dimensional and quite frankly, none of the three protagonists seem very queenly to me. I'm not sure if this is intentional, but I don't truly believe any of them could fight their way out of a paper bag if it came down to it. Maybe Mirabella. Still not my favorite, and she definitely doesn't have my vote either.

I've downloaded the sequel's audiobook because I am curious to see how the series will progress from here. And the drama of the last 60 pages of TDC (which is really when anything happens at all) has me wanting to know what other shitstorms these three and their posse's can get into.

Oh, and I lied. For queen, I'm rooting for Camden.

Loved the premise of the book but I have to agree with the other reviews about the execution. It’s well written but it is a little slow. One the other hand I can see it’s setting the scene and vital information for later but i was also skimming thru this mf and not missing anything. That being said, i did buy the whole series at a massive discount cuz my local B&N was having a closing sale, so I’ll be finishing it especially because of the cliffhanger at the end, and the series seems to have better reviews as you read on. Fave queen at the moment: maybe Mira or Kat

I started this book because I heard so many great things about it I wasn’t sure I would really like it. Just because the world seemed so massive, which it is. But after a few chapters I really enjoyed it and started to get the hang of it.

As mentioned the world is huge, we have one big world but also three separate kind of kingdoms all with their own should be queen and her, I guess could be her court and or friends.

We get quite a few POVs in the book, it was a bit confusing in the beginning but once you are familiar with the Queens and her clan it is super easy to follow.

I tried to figure out which one of the three I like most, but really I couldn’t really choose… at least not yet, they all have different things I liked or disliked. The same goes with their powers. It is clear early on that Mirabella is the one everyone favorites and thinks will be their next queen but things of course don’t go that way and we get thrown for a loop a few times.  The book is pretty fast paced and we get plenty of action as well. We also get some romance but not overly so which I enjoyed that it didn’t take away from anything, but just enough and some of it was actually pretty important in the overall story arc.

The ending, was wild it was nonstop actions and surprises until it finally leaves us with a cliffhanger you don’t want to miss.

Overall I’m glad I read this book and I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would in the beginning and I’m looking very much forward to book two in the series.
I rate it 4 ★
