The Şiret Mask - Marie Brennan ****
A fun little caper of a story, full of masks and shifting disguises as the heist of the coveted Şiret Mask (valued only for the difficulty of obtaining it) unravels around the Festival of Changes. The friendship at the centre feels a genuine fondness and the action rolls along ever more frantically to its rope-dangling conclusion/opening.

His Wife And Serpent Mistress - Gillian Daniels ****
Another story of thieves and disguises, a little more serious in tone, with a light touch of social commentary (serpent people being mocked and discriminated against) but a stronger theme of revenge. The Marquis is trapped living with his uncle after his parents were robbed in his childhood and finds escape with his arranged marriage and his mistress. All the main characters are full of charm, even the hated uncle rounded out despite his flaws and the story reveals itself delightfully, bit by bit, until the satisfying final revenge.
