I dug the simple story with limited words but when the baby poked the dog I wish there had been something about treating dogs gently. Or the dog getting grumpy about being poked. Because not all dogs react well to being poked. And now I'll say poked again because I clearly haven't said it enough.

This is an adorable story of a baby and his old dog. Fogliano has penned a wonderfully rhythmic rhyming poem as the text for this book. The words flow nicely, and the text is peppered with key repetitions, making this a good gentle read for bed or quiet times. It's a little longer than I usually use for my baby storytimes, but I still would give it a go. I'm not always a fan of Raschka's illustrations, but they work well here - pencil with watercolors, giving the illustrations a soft feel, much like the text. Two thumbs up.

Easy read for a kid, but I found it hard to find the cadence. Adorable illustrations and fun to read to my 6 mo old.

I thought this would be too long for baby time, but I tried it and they loved it! Super sweet.

The verse didn't quite do it for me, but the story is cute and the illustrations are really vibrant. I love the style.
