I really enjoyed reading this book. The style of the writing and the personality in the writing make the reading experience that much better. There is a lot of good advice throughout the text.
I enjoyed this book of anecdotal incidents with people he posits as mentors as I’ve not read his memoirs, however I feel that those who come expecting greatness from his wisdom will be disappointed and i think that comes from his style of writing and speaking being so similar which can be off putting, but also having listened to his podcast, he really comes out best in the form of conversation. I think if he’d been able to tell this story through more conversations with the mentors - which are scattered throughout - that might lend itself well to telling the story of his life while also giving more insights into the functionality of these relationships

I love the way Russell Brand writes, sometimes in a way that I can't understand nevertheless!
Mentors was really insightful, talking about the people that have helped Russell Brand overcome addiction, and the way we too can benefit from mentors in our own life. Some parts were really meaningful and raw, a really good read overall!

Little nuggets of gold in here mixed in with humour and overly long words. Just as you'd expect from Brand.
"Any good mentor will enhance your self-sufficiency"
"Any good mentor will enhance your self-sufficiency"
The crux is in the appendix, the rest is his way to show gratitude to his mentors.
Great part about his writing is there are no hodgy podgy secret recipes to mentor or be a good mentee.
Just good plain advice.
Three stars because I didnt take out anything novel from it, was hoping some depth from Russel Brand.

Russell Brand's Mentors is truly a life changing book. I particularly liked his views on relationships and what matters in life. It's all about perspective and dealing with healthy feelings versus unhealthy feelings. The book gives the advice of finding mentors; generally just consulting people who seem to have their act together in an aspect where one would like to see improvement for oneself or areas of one's life where one sees struggle. Often Brand will come back to the 12 step programme which he covers in more depth in "Recovery" his other book. It seems addiction recovery provided Brand with a framework beyond his struggles which he suggests serves as a blueprint, in my reading, for a fuller life. What I myself personally liked was his coverage of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which he assigns a more spiritual meaning apart from the exercise and sport. This also allows him to contemplate certain aspects of masculinity. Overall, an enjoyable read which shines the most for its humour, as one would expect from a book written by Russell Brand.
