This is some of Jane Austen’s most beautiful writing. I do feel it is missing something…the world if she published it while she was alive. But overall incredibly moving and affecting

Jane Austen you will always be admired and famous and adored and no one will ever write romance as you do…that letter alone buries anything written in the last century

How I selected this book
Time to read another Jane Austen

Plot summary
A family rents out their house because they are short on money. Anne re-falls in love with the navy captain who previously wasn't good enough for her.

Thoughts
Not as good as the other Austen's I've read (Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Emma).   But it did make me want to watch a mini-series. Too much use of the word "persuasion".

friends to lovers to exes to strangers to friends to LOVERS 🥰❤️😍🥰😍❤️🥰😍🥰❤️

Mrs. Smith cancelling Mr. Elliot put such a big smile on my face because I was scared Anne was starting to like him instead ☺️

I also really liked the conversation on gender roles at the end which seemed very progressive for 1817

Also bucks the trend of me falling in love with the eldest sister, while I feel for both Anne's sisters they are incredibly written to be completely insufferable (especially Mary)

Also this book describes the silliness of having a crush on someone so well, had me giggling and swinging my feet

while my opinion could change on another read at another time, i am simply very struck by the bitter feelings and melancholy and imperfect family and marriages of regret. i understand why so many love austen now.

this was a fun read, only gave it a 4 because I had to compare it to Jane's 5 star novel (Pride and Prejudice).
