Sweet Olive

This one was a nice slow trip to a small town in Louisiana. It uses the recent shale finds as the catalyst for the disruption of this sleepy town.

Camille Gardner is sent by her uncle, an oil and gas company owner, to a small town in Louisiana to get a small group of land owners to lease their mineral rights to the company. She is in the doghouse with him due to some recent gaffe to the media. In order to get her wish to put down roots and work out of the main office, she has to land the deal.

Camille has never been entirely into the oil and gas business; her heart is the art world. She winds up working for her uncle after he sweeps in to rescue her and her mother years ago. She feels she owes him.

Camille finds herself siding with the homeowners on this one. They happen to be a group of local artists who want to maintain the look of their land. What doesn't help is their good looking lawyer also distracts Camille.

Good read. Interesting to see the little guy fight the man.

nice light read--I do think that I will read the next in the series so it did capture my attention. I just wanted more from this book. It was sweet and I want to cheer on certain characters and boo others. I want know if the Sweet Olive bushes are real. I would like to smell them. I will say the book drew me in by my senses...I want to see and smell this little community.

This one wasn’t for me. I wanted to enjoy it but the plot, characters, and writing style all missed the mark this time.

Sweet Olive really resonated with me. I love the characters and setting and the sense of community presented. I also appreciate when Christian fiction is subtle, not overtly preachy, and Sweet Olive strikes just the right tone. There were a few moments where I was confused by the timeline, and who was doing what, especially toward the end. But, I'm still giving Sweet Olive 5 stars, because I enjoyed reading the book so much and spending time with these characters. I haven't read an over-300-page book in three days in a long time; Sweet Olive is a wonderful book. I look forward to reading the next book. In the meantime, I'll be looking for Christie's Green series.
