I love how the author extends kindness and empathy to every animal she meets (even the ones who kill her chickens). also, dogs are the best
One of those books that gives you some light, as in the shining light warming our hearts, and also lightening the loads of the world upon us.
I kept this book on my nightstand, and every night it was an antidote to the news and tragedies of the day. Montgomery writes about animals in a way that is lovely and loving without being precious. An enchanting book!

2.75 stars. I liked the wild animal chapters best. Can't really relate to how she felt about her pets, but someone with pets and no kids would probably enjoy this more.

This is super not my usual kind of book, but I loved the title and the cover art is gorgeous so I really wanted to read it. I’m so glad I did! The author’s observations on creatures and our connection with them as humans is magical to read about. I admit, I skipped the chapter about the spider. I just can’t do spiders. But the other chapters all taught me something and I loved her insights. Really great book! Would definitely recommend especially if you are someone that already loves animals and nature.
