I loved, loved, LOVED Ella Enchanted when I read it years ago and wanted to reread it this year. I was thrilled that there was a prequel (sort of) and decided to read this before diving back into Ella Enchanted.

The story starts out strong, lags a bit in the middle, and finished strongly again. Evie should have figured out her feelings beforehand, but she is young so that can easily be excused. She’s funny, stinky, hungry and quite lovable, even with the mouthful of fangs.

Now on to Ella Enchanted, and hopefully this won’t pale in comparison.

Meandering plot line...Had its moments but not nearly as good as Ella Enchanted. But I’m not the target audience age anymore either...

I loved Ms Lavoy's narration, and while the story was entertaining and had some good messages, I wasn't happy with how Evie's change of heart wrt Wormy was shown. I would've liked to see more depth there.

Wow, I am really vacillating between giving this book a 1 or 2 stars. We'll say 1 1/2 stars.

I love Gail Carson Levine's books typically, The Two Sisters of Bamarre, Fairest, of course, Ella Enchanted, even the Disney fairy books she's written!

But Orge Enchanted was a hot mess if I've ever read one. I am so sad, because I was very excited for this companion novel, but it was so. Dreadful.

I have read good middle-grade books before, obviously the quality ones are out there. However, this totally and completely read like such a juvenile, broken just, /kids/ book. It rambled, it dragged, it was flat, boring, and yet she used some extremely high vocabulary that even being meant for kids, kids will not know!

The plot - boring, the characters - 2 dimensional, the problem - sterotypical and the ending - horrible cliche in the worst way possible.

I only finished it because it was an easy, short read and I desperately need books to fill my reading quota for the challenge this year.

Sorry Gail, wasn't a fan of this one :(

I liked this. Definitely enjoyed it. But was it just me, or did this feel very cut-and-dry? I'm still not sure how I feel about Evie. The other characters were wonderfully done, but Evie felt a little cold. Granted, sometimes people are like that. But her character didn't seem to translate well for me. Overall, though, this is a delightful book about love where you least expect it, and loving another person through it all: the gross, the hard, the long-suffering.

don't know why I even bothered attempting to read this. I liked Evie okay, and the whole 'doctor' business she ran had potential, but after she went to the ogre's village (stronghold? kingdom? town?) I had to stop- I was so bored. I probably should have continued, but I really lost interest. the plotline felt weak, and overall didn't meet my expectations.

wonderful, with a similarly bitter curse but far more lethal consequences than Ella's own curse, Evie is an amazing heroine with a singular gift to heal others, which her transformation doesn't hinder. I'm very glad I found and read this book finally. it is right beside ella enchanted as a favorite

Ella Enchanted is one of my favorite books ever, so I had really high hopes for this. But the first half really dragged for me, and I wasn’t the biggest fan of Evie.

I really enjoyed the second half, and especially enjoyed getting to see so many of the key players in Ella Enchanted, like Lady Eleanor, Mandy, and Ella while she was in utero. Had the entire book been more like the second half, I would’ve given it a higher rating, but overall, I think it was a fun read, especially for fans of the original book.
