Cute. It was nice to revisit a world I loved when I was a smaller human.
all i can really say about this is that it wasn't ella enchanted. i keep writing and deleting other reviews because it all comes down to that lmao.

Fairy tale retellings are my favorite. Ogre Enchanted takes those elements that I love and makes them into something new.
What I loved:
-The inversion of the Beauty and the Beast story.
-Our beast is a young girl who was turned into an ogre.
-Lucinda was reminiscent of all the other evil fairies (Hello, Maleficent).
-I really enjoyed ‘seeing’ inside the ogre’s mind.
-You really got to see Evie struggle to keep a hold on the human side of herself.
-Evie discovering what ogre skills she possess was fun to read.
-Even the background on the ogres was fascinating.
-They have an entire language!
-The little sprinklings of their culture was really cool.
-I love that Evie manage to still be herself despite her condition.
-She really is a healer through and through.
-She refused to eat thinking creatures and made an effort to pay for things when she stole them.
What I didn’t love:
-How easily Evie falls into love.
-I know she’s needing to break the curse but calm down girl.
-That’s not love.
-TINGLING
-I never want to hear about tingling again.
-Seriously though. The tingling was never throughly explained.
-It’s not love. So what was it?
-The story meanders a bit and starts to drag towards the end.
I feel like I read Ella Enchanted as kid but I’m not really sure. I can’t really speak to how this stands up as a prequel.
In the end, Ogre Enchanted as a fun fairy tale even if you haven’t read Ella Enchanted.

Such nostalgia! ELLA ENCHANTED was one of my favorite books as a kid, and it definitely kicked off my adoration of fractured fairy tales, so I was ecstatic to hear about OGRE ENCHANTED. When young healer Evie refuses her best friend's marriage proposal, that ever-foolish fairy Lucinda turns her into a hideous (and very hungry) ogre. She sets out to find someone who will propose again despite her...well, ogre-ish appearance. Along the way, she meets a group of ogres and learns their ways and abilities. When a deadly disease hits the capital city and the king himself, Evie must convince everyone that she can save them with her healing abilities, regardless of what she looks like. An exciting adventure, very fun, and provided a peek into Ella's world (before she was even born). The romance was adorable, and I enjoyed every page!
Every bit as heartwarming and joyous as Ella Enchanted this book doesn't disappoint!!
I loved that it was set before Ella's story and all the little elements from her story that showed up here.
It was also wonderful getting to know some old characters even better and cherish new ones.
I wonder if the author is part ogre because she wrote with an understanding of people that I found remarkable.

I wouldn't call this a particularly ground-breaking book, but it was a fun, cute read, and I enjoyed all the Ella Enchanted characters! Definitely had a good time overall.
This book is a companion novel to Ella Enchanted that was actually quite fun to listen to. Some of the plot reminded me of Shrek, in that she's turned into an ogre and must find someone to propose (aka love her in that form) before time is up. It was just as well written as Ella Enchanted was and I really liked Evie. Despite her being turned into an ogre, she still wants to be a healer. She goes through a big adventure in the 62 days that she has to find someone to propose to her and it doesn't go the way you would expect. I knocked a star off because she does seem pretty single-minded at points. Even getting attention from someone made her think she had a chance of being proposed to. There's classic villainry in this book and it really makes you hate them. It took me some time to warm up to Wormy (the narrator gave him a voice that made him seem brainless) and Eleanor was definitely my favorite supporting character.
If you're a fan of Ella Enchanted then I would give this book a chance!

I may have been a little harder on this book because I loved Ella Enchanted so much. This one paled in comparison, with a fairly predictable story arc, and several places where I felt the plot was moving forward based on plot rather than on character (particularly Wormy's actions at the very end, which seemed very out of character.)
This was nowhere near as good as Ella Enchanted. It was still well written and fun but it was nothing spectacular. That aside it was fun being back in frell. Also, who the hell is letting Lucinda continue to live. That hoe needs to die.
