This book was a wild ride! I didn't know what to expect but this wasn't it. I liked that it stayed with the format of slowly revealing the mystery and true to form honestly left me with even more questions. I think the first book was a bit more enjoyable because of Gideon and the challenge setting was simply more interesting than the assassination attempts tbh. But still a very solid continuation and expansion of the world of the locked tomb series.

Not as good as the first book, but still a good read.

Second read: I still didn't enjoy it as much as the first book, because a lot of it is just about Harrow feeling bad. Gideon is a way more fun POV character. But I updated my rating to 5 stars because this thing is just so well crafted, and still really enjoyable.

I thoroughly enjoyed the unreliable narrator and psychological twists and turns in this book. A very different style and POV, but it still felt like the same world and characters.
