There is moving insight into infertility treatment, the choices available and the people going through this challenging situation in this lovely memoir of a couple trying to have a baby. The author’s essays about “Plan B family making” really opened my eyes to issues and feelings about infertility that I knew nothing about. Well researched and lovely, thoughtful writing.

Interesting and enjoyable. I found my interest ebbing and flowing throughout listening to it - I was never really hooked. I loved that the author weaved literary references throughout her story of fertility and motherhood. I thought some of the political elements concerning adoption, surrogacy, and the resources used toward fertility treatment were addressed very superficially, and the author never really delves deeply into her own views on these issues. However, the book is a well-told story of one woman’s experience navigating fertility.

Well written but also depressing. Probably not the best thing to read if you're hoping to have children in the near-ish future.

An insightful exploration of the author's experiences with fertility that makes connections to literature, film, medicine, politics, health insurance, etc. It is definitely educational. My assumptions about infertility, the process and struggle associated with it, were demolished. I knew it was difficult and expensive, but I didn't realize the many different methods of assisted reproduction. It is far beyond take a pill or go through in vitro fertilization. I also had NO idea what IVF really was. Boggs also discusses adoption, health care disparities, LGBT rights, and discusses how infertility is viewed in film and literature.

This was lovely, which is no great surprise given Graywolf published it ;) would have loved stuff on trans* issues with fertility but c'est la vie I guess!
