A good start to a series! I wouldn’t say it wowed me, but I see lots of potential for further books. I liked several characters and will definitely read more of the series (if translated into English) to see how their stories develop.
I loved the setting as I’ve never read anything else like it. I do need a lesson on pronouncing polish names though!

Zofia is excellent. A woman who's at once desperate to fit in and be accepted into society and at the same time determine to not live in the shadow of her husband. She's a refreshing mix of Poiret and Columbo with a distinctly feminine sense of wiliness and world vision. I loved her admiration of Poe and the rich depiction of the class structure of nineteenth century Cracow. Historically interesting and a wonderfully concluded - it just takes a little brain power to keep up with the different countesses and baroness!
A wonderful mystery a la Agatha Christie. However, sometimes a bit hard to follow because I am unfamiliar with the pronunciation of Polish names.
I loved this mystery book. It was so much fun. It was such a difference to read a book set in the 1890s not in London or England. I liked learning about a different country in my favorite time period. I didn’t see the big reveal coming or the bad guy. It was kind of like the Poirot reveal in that way.

Fun and easy. It reminded me of a mash-up of Agatha Christie (cozy mystery) and Edith Wharton (bougie social climbing). Not my favorite genre, but if you like mysteries, this is a solid choice.
I had a lot of fun reading this story and it made me discover a new to me writer.
I loved the mix of mystery and comedy of manners, the social commentary and the vivid descriptions of the setting.
It was an excellent read and I strongly recommend it.
Many thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
