TW/ Tropes: sexual nature, age gap, fated mates

Ainslee is part vampire and lycan. She has lived a sheltered life with 3 older overprotective brothers and and overprotective dad. Luca has searched for his mate for a long time. To the point that he has started to lose himself to his beast and his loneliness. Now that he’s found his mate he will do anything to be with her.

This book was pretty much exactly like the book before it.

Four hundred years is a long time to wait for your mate. But Lycan shifter, Luca, never expected to wait that long.
Because of it he is starting to go mad, his Lycan taking over and changing him physically. He’s sequestered himself away from everyone, including his brother, roaming the halls and howling in agony from not finding her.

When he attends his brother’s mating ceremony, he’s only planning on staying briefly. After all, he doesn’t want to be whispered and stared at. Everyone is aware of the mad Lycan.
However, he gets a sniff of something sweet and addicting in the air in between all the Otherworld creatures who have showed up. His mate is here. And nothing, not even her protective father and brothers, will keep him away.

Hybrid, Ainslee, is tired of being coddled and considered weak by her family. Her mother is a vampire and her father is the King of the Scottish clan of Lycan’s. Neither Vampire or Lycan is dominant in her and she’s always felt small and out of place. When her mate shows up, she’s intrigued and aroused. She wants to get to know him but her overprotective dad and brothers won’t let him near here, afraid that he will hurt her.

There’s only one solution - sneak out and let her mate take her far away.

DO NOT sleep on this series! It’s only Book 2 so you have time before Darragh and Caelan’s story which I am super stoked for! Even curious about Ainslee’s anti-hero vampire uncle, Adryan and hope he gets a story?

I felt so bad for Luca in Book 1 and have been eagerly anticipating Book 2 after that lovely teaser in Ren’s story. Great writing, intriguing characters and fantastic MC’s (especially those possessive shifters).

“Provide for her. Spoil her. Make her see what you have to offer as a male of worth and a mate who will take care of her.“

Oh my goodness! Luca has a mate!
If you read book one, you know that Luca has been torturing himself for many many years because he was mateless and so so depressed and lonely and he was turning more lycan than human and people thought of him as a feral beast..

We meet Ainslee and her very close knit family that consist of her mother, father and brothers. She is a lycan and vampire hybrid. They are a very close family who are very protective over the females.
At a gathering, it was quickly realized that Ainslee and Luca were mates. That did not sit well with Ainslee’s family. There was no way they were going to allow their precious daughter/sister be mates to a feral beast like Luca.
Her family quickly whisked her off which devastates Luca and he is absolutely determined to get his mate back. After all he’s been waiting for hundreds of years.
Ainslee knew in her heart that she would be the only one that can get to Luca and tame his Lycan. It did not take too long for the two to sneak and come together. And run away together, leaving her family behind.

“Gods, just thinking about her fangs embedded in my neck as she drew from me had my dick so hard it throbbed. I felt the front of my slacks become wet from the constant flow of pre-cum at the tip.“
With being faded mates, there was instant attraction and some really steamy moments. Luca would literally do anything for his mate. Would never let a single tear run down her face or a moment of sadness. He’s literally so swoon worthy.
But love isn’t enough sometimes. Her family desperately wants to get them apart. And it is a race to find peace within the two families.
It was not without bloodshed.

“And I knew that’s what Luca was to me. A home. My home.“

This is probably my favorite book so far. There are definite moments in the book between one of Ainslee’s brothers and a brand new character that tells me that they will be the next couple to have their own book. But I think book 2 is my absolute favorite so far.
If you like full adrenaline,
fast pace,
fated mates with families that don’t agree,
Hot sex and sexy moments
Vampires and Lycans

This book was absolutely amazing. I finished it in a few hours. And it has a definite HEA.
It also has a slight introduction to the next characters for the next book that’s coming out in a few months which I thought was really cool for the author to do!

Just like the first book, I devoured this one.

Luca is Ren’s older brother from book one. He hasn’t found his mate and has been slowly losing himself to his lycan. Everyone saw him as less than sane because of it. When at the mating ceremony for Ren and Mikalina, Luca sees Ainslee and instantly knows, she’s his mate. I really enjoyed them together. Ainslee struggled to find her place in the world as a halfling (half lycan, half vampire). Both sides were pretty dormant until one finally presented itself when she needed it most. Because neither half fully emerged, her family was very overprotective and coddling to her which caused most of the conflict. I loved that Ainslee took charge of her future and really grew into her own.

An All Consuming, Passionate, and Wild Fated Mate Story...

"You Are Mine" by Jenika Snow continues her splendid return to gritty, unapologetically forceful, obsessive, and possessive alpha shifters. The sexy, grumbly, larger than life men hunting their women, looking for that one perfect match to their souls until the point of madness.  And here, with Snow’s second foray into her “The Lycans” series, she once again gives us the wonderfully outrageous paranormal fated-mate, insta-everything, “you are mine no matter what…” story framework I have come to crave from her.

“You Are Mine” is the story of Luca and Ainslee, Luca being the half feral brother of Ren from book one. The brother shut away in the bowls of their ancestral home, a choice made by him to protect the world from his half mad state of being, a state brought on by being unmated for hundreds of years. Years of loneliness which have tortured him greatly, had him endure unbearable loneliness and heartbreak over not finding his mate and choosing to sink into insanity rather than face another day of the emotional pain. It is an angst filled story that begins almost immediately where the first Lycans book leaves off, at Ren and Mikalina’s mating ceremony.  An occasion meant to be filled with rambunctious celebration and joy, but is instead filled with tension as all in attendance are on edge at the appearance of Luca, whose unstable reputation precedes him greatly. A reputation cemented when he sees (and smells) Ainslee, the tiny hybrid, half vampire/half werewolf only daughter to the king of the Scottish lycans who he instantly recognizes as his fated mate.  A recognition that causes all hell to break loose!

What follows is a wildly paced emotional rollercoaster of a tale. An almost unhinged story of desperate need and claiming love against all odds that contains a level of passion, soap opera worthy intrigue, and sex appeal that will hold your attention hostage from start to finish.

It is an all-consuming tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat and make you beg the universe for a Luca of your own. You will panic at the thought of Luca being “dealt with” by Ainslee’s overprotective clan. You will shout and cheer at Ainslee’s fight to find her own inner strength and stand defiant in her own right. You will coo and cry and wish for more when their story comes to an end. And while I loved every moment of Luca and Ainslee’s story I wish this book had stayed focused on them. Sadly though, as with the first, Snow inlays jarring chapter breaks outlining the next book that greatly disrupt the flow of the story being told. The worst one being right at the end of chapter thirty-three where you are at the pinnacle of Luca and Ainslee’s conclusion, riding high on all they’ve endured, wrapped around every word they are saying to each other when BAM you are slammed into plot points for book three.  I literally almost threw my kindle across the room at the unwanted interruption and remain unhappy with this new literary style by the author.

As I also stated in my review of book one, I understand why the information is there. However, it is highly disruptive and crammed into the story most unnaturally.  It derails the events taking place and distracts you from the present story being told. You are prevented from fully feeling and enjoying the full extent of the bond forming between Luca and Ainslee and in places it greatly detracted and diminished the chemistry between them and the potency of the love story overall.

A continued disappointed that had me (for the first time ever) skipping entire chapters and suppressing the need to shout out loud “please just stop doing that to this wonderful and deeply enchanting story world!” because while I don’t mind previews, I do mind entire chapters being stolen. Please just give me more of the story at hand and less of the advertisements for the next installment. I promise I will read the next one, as this series is wonderful, but I just really want to enjoy each couple as they are in their own world and not get bounced around from one to the other.

I really enjoyed this book. Enjoyed the new side characters introduced in this book. Although I wasn't sure about their POV's being included. This book was enjoyable, it just didn't have much of a plot besides the heroines family not accepting the mating. This was full length book, but I felt like the first book which was a novella had more to it.

You Are Mine by Jenika Snow is a paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Jason Clarke, Stella Hunter, and John Hartley. This is the second book in The Lycans series.

This is the second book of Jenika's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Luca and Ainslee. I liked that we got Luca, Ainslee, Cian, Caelan, Darragh, Lennox, and Adryan's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the next book in the series The Hunger to be released on audio so I can get Caelan and Darragh's story.

Jason, Stella, and John did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
