The Evil That was Done

Rating: 5 stars

The Evil That Was Done is the third book in the Secrets of Redemption series. You must, must, must read the first two books before reading this one. Seriously, all the books tie in together and follow the same characters, and the storylines continue through each book. Don’t skip a book!

I love this series and if you read my previous reviews, you know I wasn’t the biggest fan of Rebecca. I still struggled with liking her here, but it got better as the book went along. I think this book, more than the others, really showed while she was so indecisive and struggled with decision making. But, I think she was really putting herself together by the end of the book. Don’t get me wrong, she made STUPID decisions and I kept thinking “what is she doing?”

As with the previous books, there is A LOT going on! Redemption has a lot of history and the previous books left us with many unanswered questions. I had my suspicions and some of those were right, some of those were wrong and some things I didn’t even consider a mystery! I did know who the current killer was, though I didn’t even guess the extent of this person’s behavior.

If you love mystery or paranormal books, and well-written books, this is a series for you to read! An unexpected surprise to my reading this series is that after I read the first book, I recommended it to my mom. She also loves the entire series and it’s been fun being able to discuss it with her, especially our suspicions before reading the final book. We never read the same books and it’s been fun doing so! And, turns out I get my fast reading from her. She read each of these books in a day, though she stayed up until 2 a.m. to do so because once you start, you just can’t put the book down! This was the final book in the series, and the author has done a great job of wrapping up everything!

I am loving this series!

I don't want to say too much about this book in case I accidentally spoil anything for anyone, especially those who haven't read the first two books. I have already bought book four though, and I will be starting it tonight, so that gives you some idea of how invested I am in these characters.

If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend you add book one to your list.

Easy reads and as soon as I put one down I
can't wait to start the next in the series. I love the "just paranormal enough" combined with the surprises of the real world. The characters are well written because I want to yell at some of them at times!

What a twister!

I have to admit, I started off excited to read the book because I really wanted to know what happened to Jessica. Some of the extra twists got me frustrated because I just wanted to learn the truth! I found out but the ending left me wanting more but also frustrated that it’s being prolonged even further (she has another book coming out October 2020).

This is the final book in the Redemption Town series. Overall, I liked the series. The mysteries and paranormal aspects were intriguing. The characters were well written and developed, but I am left a little confused about the town and whether the characters have ‘gifts. Once again, Becca has way too many too stupid to live moments and decisions. Seriously Becca needs to put the wine down and drink something without alcohol. The rest of the cast of characters make up for that. We do learn what the Evil that was done was. But, that darkness, what changed them, was not answered. It feels like not all the answers, at least when it comes to the town. It feels as though other characters, like Mia and Daphne, have a story or two of their own.

Throughout books 1 and 2, you keep reading about "the evil that was done" several people say it but there's no real explanation. Until now. This book gives insight into exactly what evil was done and who did it and why.

In this book we return to Rebecca, still living in her aunt's house, trying to decide what to do. Stay and try to make a life of her own, in the house where she feels most at home, or return to New York where her parents have her whole life set up for her. A place where she will feel stifled and sad. While trying to decide what to do, people start disappearing, again. This isn't the first time this has happened in the town of Redemption. But all too soon, Rebecca starts to realize that she is being set up. Strange things keep occurring to her, but why? Why is someone following her, planting evidence in her home and making her look like a killer? She has no idea why but her Aunt Charlie, (who appears to her in dreams) has the answers, but Rebecca must find them before it's too late. Can she find the evidence of a long dead crime and clear her name before it's too late or will she suffer the same fate?

All I can say is WOW!! I could not put this book down. Rebecca finally starts to stand on her own two feet, breaking away from her parents and deciding to embrace her free spirit, artistic side. I am happy to see that she will be staying in Redemption, to be her own person and hopefully she will continue her relationship with Daniel. The writing is fantastic here! I love the characters and very much look forward to the next book.

This is the 3rd book in the Redemption series and we get some resolution for all the crazy sh*t Becca has been put through.

I liked that Becca is trying to stand up for herself now that the truth about Jessica has come out. I liked that she was trying to return to her art. I didn’t like that she continued to second guess herself and her relationships, should she stay or should she go?

...And then the creepy stuff starts up again! Louise and Gwynn have it out for Becca, Mia is starting to look haunted (she’s staying in Mad Martha’s room) and Aunt Charlie is still visiting in Becca’s dreams. There’s a lot of tension as suspicious noises and anonymous emails abound.

I was satisfied with the conclusion of this series and will definitely watch out for more books by this author.
