So pleased to be an ARC reader for this amazing book! Thank you!
Rating: 5 stars / Spice: 2.5 peppers
What a fun and immersive leap into this new series! I was totally drawn in by the immediate action and the instant tension and chemistry between characters. I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the magic system, and loved trying to unravel the mysteries as the story progressed and more and more clues were revealed. I can't wait for the story to continue in book 2!
This is the first book of a series, and ends on a cliffhanger.
What to expect:
vampires, fae, witches
enemies to lovers
secrets
marriage of convenience
banter
morally grey MCs

I didnt know what was going on. It was too much like Crescent City for me with the creatures and names and powers and it was just too much information, too soon that wasnt making any sense to me. I didnt understand why aiden and rae were forced to be married. I didnt understand what either of them were trying to achieve. I just didnt get it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Victory Publishing for sending me this ARC.
I really wanted to love this book - the premise and world-building had a lot of potential, but I just didn't feel a connection to the characters. The sex scenes were well written, however, the friendship between Rae and Nim felt lacking, and I wish the build-up between Rae and Aidan had been more intense. It felt like every other paragraph they were having a 'visk' or a joint, or wishing they had one, which got repetitive quickly.
This wasn't a badly written book, I just think it wasn't for me. 3 stars.

Couldn't stomach main character's personality and writing.

Wow, so I played myself here. I may have realized it when I requested it, but I guess my mind blanked on the fact that this was the first in a series. At about 50% I remembered that it was the first book, and said to myself, "oh no, this cliffhanger is going to be rough." Let me tell you, Victoria did not disappoint! No rush, but I NEED the next book!
The romance was slow-burn, but not too drawn out, and the banter from the main characters was *chef's kiss*. I loved the world and the unreliable POV (great twist by the way, I didn't see that one coming). I feel like I put things together as Aiden did.
Although I loved the story and the main characters, there were a couple small instances where I felt like the fantasy aspect was a little lacking, mostly just in the naming of the orders of fae. Victoria made this really cool world with so many different types of beings, but the naming of the fae just fell flat in comparison, for me.
Overall, highly recommend and I will be telling any and everyone to read this so I have people to talk to about it while we wait for the next installment!

Thank you to the author for a gifted copy of this ebook.
I really liked it and look forward to the next part. The storyline is really good. We get both MCs POVs, which I love. The story did take me a little to get into and be able to keep up with at the beginning but things started falling into place and man it got good! I love morally gray mmcs and bada$$ fmcs. While they need each other and make their agreement to help each other, the marriage of convenience and forced proximity of it all makes them fall for each other. Also witches and vampires… love love love.
