This is such a sad, strange, and deeply unsettling novel. The writing is often masterful, but I don’t quite know how to feel about it. I agree with reviewers that while it might be difficult to actually *like* this book, you can certainly admire its ambition and execution.

this book is 500 pages of moral relativism, unrelenting disgust, and perpetual ambiguity.

“In the darkness loomed monsters and ghosts, and in what I could not see I saw everything I had ever feared”

in the darkness of this book loomed the relative reality of humanity and its consequences and its terrifying.
