A beautiful read

This book was so beautifully written and so thoughtful. I ate it up in just a couple of days. I found it to be much more hopeful than Age of Miracles, which had such a sad ending (for me) that I was afraid to read this book. So glad that I did. Worth every moment.

one of my goals for this year was to read more books with lower ratings, considering most of the books i pick up are popular ones and i rarely enjoy them.

after reading this, i'm sure it'll be a goal i stick to. this was incredible. i've never been a person to like stories told in multiple points of view but i thoroughly enjoyed myself. i do wish that some situations ended differently but i also accept how everything turned out - negative or positive. truly a great read to start of 2021.

I love how Walker takes on interesting concepts that affect larger populations, and weaves personal stories into the larger epidemic. Her first book blew me away, and I still recommend it and give it as gifts. I really liked this one as well, maybe not as much, but it was still a great concept that was just realistic enough to be unsettling.

I thought the premise of this was very interesting and Walker did a good job of exploring how such an epidemic would effect multiple people in the small town, but the writing seemed a bit choppy or distant to me; I never felt close enough to these multiple characters.

I also had the same feeling that I had while reading her other book, [b:The Age of Miracles|12401556|The Age of Miracles|Karen Thompson Walker|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1342487370s/12401556.jpg|17382941], that it was a long short-story I was reading, rather than a novel.

Great writing style, good concept, but what was the point? There’s no explanation for anything that happened, and the ending felt so rushed and loose.

Was so excited for this book but found it disappointing. She didn’t go in depth with the characters enough for me.

3.5/5 Stars

What a weird time to pick this book up. The first half was faaaaaar too real of a comparison to current real world events. Overall I enjoyed it, but the ending wasn’t that great of a pay off.

Lots of good introspection and character development, but I couldn’t get over how implausible it was for that initial bunch of students to be quarantined in their dorm.

If you liked Station Eleven you will love this one.
I cant even begin to describe my love for this book. It shook me to my core multiple times. All I've been able to think about since I picked it up, and now a day after finishing it, is this book. I was freaked out and pulled in all at once.
Truly truly one of my favorite reads, potentially of all time.
