Ngl, I didn't realize this was already an established universe...and I didn't read any other books in it 😅 that being said... I LOVED this book.

I loved getting to see how Roc, Hook, and Wendy deeply care about each other even though they all have a really rocky and intense history.

Looking forward to reading other books in this universe so hopefully I'll be able to understand more and dive even deeper in.

I was definitely thinking this was a more of a smutty book. It’s definitely not but it’s still amazing. The story and plot are definitely going to keep you reading. And the cliffhanger honestly I want to cry. But I’m so happy this isn’t a standalone. I can’t wait for the next book.

What It’s About: Enemies Hook and Roc embark on a mission together to rescue Wendy Darling, who they just learned was abandoned long ago after leaving Neverland.

Spice Level: These two (and three) reach new levels of hot. There’s not a ton of smut, but it is all worth it. I might have a hook kink now? Is that a thing?

Realism: I always feel a little silly talking about realism when I’m reading something with aliens or fae or anything like that, but it needs to be said that Nikki really nails the emotions and insecurities of characters who otherwise seem pretty invincible. They themselves might be fantastical, but inside, they’re just like us.

Trope Alert: Enemies to lovers, second chance romance, MMF.

Trigger Warnings: There are references to an abusive relationship with a parent. And some, you know, light cannibalism on Roc’s part.

Final Thoughts: I’d been waiting for this one for a while, and it so delivered. I love this triad, and the tease for the next book got me so excited that I actually pulled a muscle in my foot because I was screaming and kicking in glee. No regrets.

I love the world Nikki has built in these books! Every new book we get opens the world up further, and makes me excited to see what we learn next.

This is a much slower burn than the other installments, with only 2 spicy scenes in the book. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you start The Never King for the spice.. but then you're hooked on the world. 🤣 Which is truly the mark of a good book.

I also felt if things had moved quicker it wouldn't make a very believable "enemies to lovers". So this was great.

Tons of action, lots of court scheming. And 😮 that ending!!!
