Damn, the things this book made me feel. One of the few books that made me want to finish it in one sitting. Emotionally overwhelming, and it’s impossible not to connect with Layla and Jude. I felt so many emotions all at once. One of the most moving.
Wow. I am not sure if I have the words to even describe this book or how blown away I was by this author that was new to me. This story of Jude and Lila was so beautiful and painful, a true meaning of love conquers all.
This was an audible listen for me and the narrators killed it! They did an amazing job at portraying all the emotions felt throughout the years. I am definitely glad I chose to listen vs reading because it intensified the experience. I love a coming of age story where it spans decades of the characters lives because it gives it more feeling.
Lila and Jude spent years hiding their feelings for each other, they would take a few steps closer and then something would push them apart. Lila knew that Jude ultimately was going to enlist in the military but she couldn’t stop her heart from falling for him and wanted to be with him. Lila waited for Jude and thought things would be better when he was home but he couldn’t shake his demons from the war. When they see each other again years later things have changed dramatically but the one thing that didn’t change was their feelings for each other.
This book was so beautiful and so emotional I found myself constantly wiping away my tears. If you want to read a story that will make you feel EVERYTHING: anger, sadness, laughter, then you will want to read this story and swoon over Jude like I did.

4.5 ⭐️ Ouf.. my poor heart. I am such a sucker for veteran PTSD and add in just all the history they couple shares and so many others things and this one was an emotional one for me. The reason I’m docking it half a star is because I didn’t really understand Brody’s character at all? Especially in the 3rd part? I really didn’t get what he was playing at and wouldn’t doubt if he was fucking buckle bunnies while away. Secondly didn’t love how Lila constantly suggested therapy but definitely coulda used some herself. Also the BJ scene, I woulda fucking clocked him! But yah, great book otherwise!
Jude is not a good guy. He’s pretty toxic and it’s not enjoyable. I don’t want her to end up with him.
Psychologically talking very interesting characters but relationship wise, Lila deserved better than Jude.

Oh, wow. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster like no other.
Have you ever read a book and felt like you were living through the main character's experiences? Because I swear, the emotions Lila faced, I was right there by her side!
Jude McCalister?
I went from loving you to strongly disliking you, then feeling incredibly sad for you, then thinking you got what you deserved, and finally, feeling ready and at peace to forgive you.
This was my first time reading a book by Emery Rose, and it did not disappoint.
I am looking forward to reading Brody’s story.
