This book is maybe 15-20 percent interesting compelling writing, with the rest being lackluster world building and pure fluff.
There are good ideas here, but the book is just too boring.

I absolutely loved it, especially the scenes with Saphira and Eragon.

I suppose it’s a little unfair of me to rate this, as it’s obviously a children’s book. However, there are so many well written children’s books that I truly enjoy, so I feel I should be honest.
The premise is good. Dragons, adventure and a boy slowly accepting his place in the world. The storytelling doesn’t live up to the potential. There are so many plot holes, the world isn’t explained well enough, the pacing doesn’t work at all and the main character keeps making odd decisions. I understand he’s a child, but he’s also a hero, and his decisions should make sense.
In conclusion, this a badly executed book, telling a wonderful story with tons of potential. I think I might finish the series to see if the writing matures with the main character.
Side note - do NOT listen to the audio book. The dragon voice is INSANE.
