A legkellemesebb meglepetések egyike volt ez a könyv a számomra idén. Általánosságban véve nem szoktam odalenni a fantasy-ért, de ez a könyv teljesen elkápráztatott. Az írónő mesés tehetséggel szőtte az egész történetet, látszik, hogy egy nagyon jól átgondolt sztorit szeretett volna papírra vetni és ez sikerült is neki. Már a legelső oldaltól fogva berántott a kalóz és a lány története, maga az írás stílusa, a hangulata; egyszerűen minden. Azért féltem egy picit, hogy a könyv végére nem kapok mindenre választ, ahogy az általában lenni szokott, de hála az égnek itt nem így történt, minden pontosan úgy ért véget ahogy lennie kellett.
Zachary Ezra Rawlins (direkt a teljes név :)) nagyon szimpatikus karakter volt, csöndessége és visszahúzódó természete ellenére sikerült úgy bemutatni, hogy hiteles legyen és érdekeljen, hogy mi fog vele történni. A többi mellékszereplő is többnyire pozitív hatást keltett bennem, habár Miralbellel nem mindig voltam kibékülve egyes cselekedetei miatt. Kat személyisége keltette fel bennem a leginkább az érdeklődést, habár ő csak később kap igazán szerepet a történetben, tetszett hogy a szereplő belső gondolatvilágába a naplószerű bejegyzései révén nyerünk betekintést.
A világépítés kétségtelenül csillagos ötöst érdemel. Az írónőnek sikerült úgy felépítenie ezt a világot, ahogy sokaknak vagy csak nagyon nagy erőfeszítés révén vagy még úgy sem sikerül. Tökéletes mértékben ötvözte a modern kor, a számítógépes játékok, mobiltelefon és egy másfajta letűntebb időszak báljait. Szépen, részletesen van minden helyszín és tárgy kidolgozva, hogy az olvasó szinte látja/a történetben érzi saját magát is.
„Mindenki másként értékel egy játékot vagy egy könyvet. Számomra van mondanivalója, mások számára viszont unalmas. A történetek személyes jellegűek. Van aki képes azonosulni velük, van, aki nem.”
Szerintem nem túlzok, ha azt mondom, hogy ez az egyik legjobb könyv, amit idén olvastam. Számomra rengeteg mondanivalója volt, és mindet imádtam.

This book was no plot, just pure vibes. It felt like a lucid dream. I enjoyed reading it only cause of the writing. The writing was absolutely phenomenal; all these stories were woven together so skilfully, the magical and whimsical storytelling approach, the minute details & key feature and the entire plot was undeniably interesting but it lacked depth. I couldn’t understand the characters well enough (there was just so much going on in the background that the main characters take a backseat till almost the end of the book). While the story was slowly building up towards this mysterious occurrences; it was finally gaining some momentum but all it led to was a damn wall!! I was expecting some plausible explanations but I’m honestly even more confused now. Such a letdown.

3.75 rounded up. Pleasantly surprised because I didn't enjoy The Night Circus, however I had heard this one was very different (albeit retaining Morgenstern's whimsical writing style).
I wasn't sure how how I felt about this book until I got pretty close to the end, although I did mostly enjoy the reading experience. I've heard the book described as 'no plot just vibes' which I understand but don't fully agree with, however it is (I think) deliberately disjointed to add to the whimsy. I enjoyed how Morgenstern tied (almost) everything together. I adored some of the short story chapters that were littered throughout the book and I hoped they would all tie together in the end - which they mostly did. However some things did go unanswered, and whilst this isn't always a bad thing, I did feel a touch more wrapping up was required. I enjoyed the characters, although occasionally felt more character development would have been nice.
Overall though a wonderfully imaginative book with beautiful lyrical prose and a highly whimsical feel.
