And yet.... I was not expecting to read a book that would challenge The Bone-Doll's Twin for its title of "Most Racist Depiction of a Black Woman in Fantasy" so soon, but this book was gunning for it. Detta is SUCH an over the top racist stereotype that both the narrative and the characters in the book stop to look at the reader and go "no Black person in the history of the world has even spoken or acted like this." But then why write her like that at all?
And yet, like Roland, I'm compelled to keep going. You've sold me on the idea of the Tower, and I want to know.
