This is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read, and Toni Morrison has made a new fan out of me. The only criticism I have is that I enjoyed the first half of the book a lot more than the second half. That being said,  I can understand why books that make us feel uncomfortable are important.

It’s obvious why this book is so important. It deals with a lot very deftly, and stylistically it reads like poetry. Hard to read at times, but how could it not be?

Golly, this is a tough read thematically. But stylistically I really enjoyed it. The opening section and the subsequent chapter titles are such a clever way of representing the impossible desires of not only Pecola, but of every suffering character in this book. Lots of trigger warnings.
