Binti is such a beautiful story. It was so easy to immediately become immersed into the world created, and I loved every moment. I'm a huge fan of really traditional and heavy sci-fi and felt that this book was able to take such a fun spin on the genre, while also keeping those elements of fantastical worlds, technology, creatures and scenarios that make the sci-fi genre so much fun to look towards. Above all else, I loved the seamless blending of culture and identity into the story, and I was truly amazed at how much I cared for the characters, specifically Binti herself, in such a short time. The imagery was also really well done, and I found myself so happy reading this story, even though it's a little darker. This is science fiction at its best, and I'm beyond excited to continue the series!

Very climate, smooth read. Read like poetry in a beautiful, developing story. Looking forward to reading the other books in the trilogy

A 2.5-3, but not because it's bad. Its actually really, really good.
This is a SciFi that has been on my TBR for a while. The story was interesting and had me wanting to know what would happen next. I enjoyed the characters, but I dont think I can say I particularly fell in love with them. I found myself just wanting more and I would love to see this more fleshed out. I just don't this there's enough here fore me to rave about it.

It's good that I'm reading this as part of the collected Binti series, or I would have considered it extremely short. The novella contains many interesting, non-western details and ideas, but also suffers a little from 'chosen one' syndrome. I'm uncertain about what the point of this story was, other than being a very charming short sci-fi story.

I must say, the number of fantasy books with POC as leads as well as POC fantasy writers is becoming much bigger and I am thankful. Binti is gripping and builds quickly. Happy I got it off my to-read list and I'm excited to read vol 2.
