I really wanted to love this, but I mostly just felt irritated by it, and, while it was of course very sad, it didn't have as much of an emotional impact on me as I was expecting. It got the 90s vibes and the New York setting spot-on, and I liked the coming-of-age and queer community and resistance elements, but I just couldn't get past how it essentially legitimised predatory grooming relationships, with one being extremely central to the story. The tone was also a bit off and it went back and forth between reading like YA and then really not. Sadly, a really disappointing read overall :(

Oh this book is beautifully written. 4.25 because the characterization wasn't fully developed for the two main characters, but the characters around them were wonderfully built.

I literally cried every few page. Such well written, bittersweet book. I loved every moment with this one even though it was also a hard story. The storytelling was grounded and the dual pov was handled really skilfully.

This book is such an important read. Every second of this book was amazing, the characters and the story. I learned so much through reading this book, it taught me things i didn’t know before. It showed me reality of the HIV Epidemic, and it wasn’t pretty. this book is so beautifully written, i will never stop talking about it.
