It’s not that it was the worst thing I’ve read but I honestly dislike Charlie. Who goes hard after someone who very recently lost their fiancé? Charlie does. It was also over the top with how they behaved with one another.
Blue Creek is the most progressive small town I’ve ever heard of. It’s okay, I guess, but it feels like it’s on the fantastical side.
What I did like was the mystery around Charlie’s accident. I did have genuine interest in it. That’s why I skipped to the end to find out what had happened.
Some might read that and decide to read what’s in between but for me it wasn’t worth it.

This story had me intrigued from the beginning. To run into your ex but have no memory of him or your time together gets my attention immediately. One because I want to know how Charlie lost his memory, two I wanted to know why Charlie and Austin broke up, and three I wanted to see them fall back in love. I'm a sucker for second chance romances and this one definitely ticked all my boxes as well as giving me a little bit of suspense in the midst of falling in love.
Not the worst read in the world - I appreciated the Austin/Char dynamic, especially as it related to their complicated past, though I feel like it could have been more developed for how impactful it was made out to be. More than other Walker novels I've read, though, the conclusion/reveal was pretty out of the blue - both entirely expected and rushed into only a few pages. Understanding this is largely meant as a vehicle for a love story, I'd love for the cases to be taken more seriously, especially as an opportunity to further explore the romance and trauma. Also, with the little inconsistencies throughout and the big crime being almost entirely undeveloped, this was a bit of a miss for me. I did appreciate the parental healing/AIDS remembrance portion nicely as a nod to history and dealing with internalized homophobia, but other than that... I wouldn't read again.

This is my first book from Max Walker and it was great . The plot kept me listening and the main characters changed and grew throughout the book and I will definitely be listening to the rest of the series.
More thrilling than I thought I love it.
This story was really great!
The mystery was really entertaining. The plot twist was great I did not get surprised by the who but I loved it even then.
The background of the characters broke my heart in so many ways. I really love the storyline on this one. It made me cry a good amount and I always love this in a book.

Fool that I am, I didn't notice this was another Stonewall book and then when I did, I couldn't remember if I'd actually read any of the other Stonewall books. Turns out that I have - read one and skimmed another. I love me a good amnesia story but this one didn't do it for me, and not even because of silly amnesia stuff. The "investigative" part of the various Stonewall Investigation books is usually pretty weak and this was no exception. Why bother including a mystery if it's going to be so lackluster? I need to remind myself to quit picking up Max Walker books because a pleasant read will inevitably turn into a skim.
