One of the most misunderstood concepts in the world.

Life changing.

Read for shits and giggles, received shits and giggles.

The criticism of Christianity is really on point, the majority of the ideas about humans and life seem to be on point... The book feels oddly modern (got consent right even though martial rape in the USA was considered criminal nationally in 1993). However it is not well written, at times it is hypocritical and cringey edgy, feels very juvenile.

Also if women are supposed to wear sexy outfits during rituals, why should men wear robes? Why not appease women's eyes and imagination too? That would make a truly satanic ritual, Anton is not satanic enough and that's why I am not into this satanic branch, no hot guys in sexy outfits /j

like he’s a misogynist

i do call myself a Satanist though and have for many years and there’s many good rituals and speeches in there for reciting

a lot of his wording is kind of silly, and he blatantly sexualizes women seemingly out of nowhere
i think he’s pretentious and calling himself the “founder of satanism” is aort of accurate but mostly annoying… he does explain that people have always worshipped the devil forever as far as time goes but he is the first to legalize it or whatever into an official Religion

i think as a practicing Satanist it shouldn’t be called a religion, i certainly don’t call myself religious BUTT it is a spiritual thing and a lifestyle choice with a specific mindset that i find helpful for me personally. i do like Leveys approach to treating life like the beasts that humans are, returning to “earthly” pleasures and indulging occasionally in those such pleasures. i like the critique of other religions but it also feels highly contrarian and he writes like Satanism could not exist without a Christianity or Islam or another patriarchal religion.

if i met Anton Levey in person i would not like him, but there was a lot in this book that surprised me
